Where do I see Myself in Five Years?

Sharing is caring!

Where do I see myself in five years
Can I visualize the future?

The title question is probably asked millions of times a day by people in random situations. Where do I see myself in five years? I wanted to give you a personal post where I answer the question. By doing this publicly I hope to achieve all the goals I have for my family in the next 5 years. Hey you reading this, have you ever written down your 5 year goals list for your current life situation. If not then I recommend you proceed diligently to find a pen and paper to complete a 5 year list today. Why did I finally decide to write a post about this now? First off because I lose paperwork all the time. Secondly because files on my computer can get lost for a myriad of techie reasons. Third reason is primarily because I freaking want to.

I talk with people from time to time and they either do not have goals or could care less to think about where they will be in 5 years. If you are not forward thinking then you might as well start literally taking steps backwards. Just take a post it, write down the goals you want to accomplish in 5 years, laminate it and put it on the fridge. That’s a fun weekend project you can do with your kids. So where do I see myself in five years?

Where do I see Myself in Five Years?

-Being completely consumer Debt Free

-Owning a Single Family House and a Rental Property

-Accumulating at least 50% towards Financial Independence Nest Egg

-Hopefully becoming part time Self-employed

-Owning 10 thousand Shares of Various Mutual Funds / Dividend Stocks

-Doing woodworking as a hobby

-Having at least 1-2K in surplus monthly Cash flow

-Taking Guitar Lessons

-Being confident with self-defense

-Having a blog with 5000 hits a day

-Getting a few speaking gigs

What do you think of my goals? Obviously by completing some, the others can be easier to attain. For example eliminating debt will help me buy a house and hopefully allow for greater wealth accumulation. I will take this list very seriously as I am a goal driven person that gets ecstatic every time a goal is completed. Completing these goals will help me grow in life, as I will be closer to the end game aka financial independence.

Do you know how much 10 thousand shares will eventually compound and produce? It will grow exponentially from there and continue to provide reinvested income for the nest egg goal. Do you know that I could use my future woodworking experience to make furniture for personal use or to sell to others as a side gig. How will I learn to be comfortable enough to give speeches in front of an audience? Well I am currently in a club called Toastmaster’s and will give my eleventh speech any day now. These are examples how I can easily take steps to complete my goals within 5 years. Now it’s your turn.

A step taken today is better than waiting to take a step tomorrow. – Rich Uncle EL

  1. This is a great post! I’m feeling inspired to write some goals and an action plan for my next 5 years… although it’s quite a scary thought!

  2. Lets see, almost half your goals are money related…I can certainly identify with that, money does play a huge role in how we live our lives. Whereas I have a hard time projecting that far off into the future, I think I would want to be a happier, healthier person, pursuing something I totally love and kicking butt at it…and sorrounded by optimistic, forward thinking and jolly people equally excited about life. If I don't have to worry so much about money or retirement, even better 🙂

    1. I think half is a good balance to have, since this is a personal finance site. Obviously we all want great relationships in life. Time spent with loved ones is the best, but if you plan on mastering Personal finance first you can attain the freedom to spend time with family without stress.
