Is Money killing you?

Sharing is caring!

Hey friends I will introduce to you a new post based on how we treat the money we have and use.  The title can be a bit deceiving as money can’t actually kill you, but how you use it can put you six feet under. I apologize for being so morbid, but I feel this has to be said, I will warn you this post is judgmental towards those who fall for any of the misuses of money below that can be slowly taking your life. See below for the 5 reasons money is killing you:

Reason 1 – Smoking

Every day as I drive to work for about 30-40 minutes I see people looking happy-go-lucky giving $$ to the big tobacco companies to smoke in their cars. I think wow do those people like to throw money away by lighting up the cigs, in addition to this they eventually are killing their lungs. This is the first on the, is money killing you list because it is a double whammy. Abusing money to feed an addiction that is killing you is not the ideal way to help anybody prosper with money. In the short-term you are losing available funds to help you retire and in the long-term you are guaranteeing a ton of future hospital fees for a slew of smoking related medical reasons. (Average smoking habit costs $200 dollars a month)

Reason 2 – Liquor

This is a tricky one because drinking on occasion is ok and actually a fun thing to do. But what I am trying to bring to light for all of you is those people who cannot control themselves. Let’s be honest here if you have a friend that drinks 6 beers a weekday and 20 cans on the weekends, then that is abuse in my book. Then you have the people who pay nightclubs 4 times the amount of a bottle to have the luxury to drink fancy in the club. Hey take a few pics of these bottles every weekend, they say.(Doesn’t that get old ?) They are throwing in the towel of retirement, before it can even have a chance to fight for you. Liquor abuse will grow your gut, destroy you liver, and waste all of your discretionary income. (Average costs of abusing liquor = $150+ week)

Reason 3 – Eating Habits

Did you know if you cook more at home you will have surplus money when compared to always eating out? On top of having extra dollars every month, your health will improve because guess what when you see what goes into the food you eat then eating better is bound to happen. Do you know how much fat and salt is thrown into restaurant food to make it taste better? Looking at the chef cook, you might have a cardiac arrest before you even take a bite of that burger? I know some restaurants that are always jam-packed, with healthy looking people. (That is sarcasm at its best) If you actually can take time to plan and purchase your food beforehand you will save money and be healthy I guarantee it. Keep the restaurant trips for special occasions only.  (Average costs for a family that eats out 3 times a week = $550+ monthly)

Reason 4 – Debt

The stress of holding debt is killing you. I cannot tell you enough that too much worrying can lead to bad things medically speaking. I hate debt and I am doing everything possible to get rid of those pesky school loans. The longer we hold them with a balance the more you will pay the debt holding companies; also the body might be permanently damaged. (Stress has lasting effects on the heart and mind) Ask yourself is it time to finally get some financial peace, if the answer is yes then make a plan to live modestly and get rid of it for the sake of living free.

Reason 5 – Gambling

This might be a controversial subject for some of you. But gambling is destroying households all over the world. This problem has been around since sports first started in Greek games and it has evolved to include card games and dice games. If you do this once or twice a year as a recreation then it is ok. The only warning I have for all of you is that the recreational use of this eventually might lead to addiction. It is a fine line people are playing with these types of games. You have to be willing to say no, and display excellent will power to not let it get out of control. The money people spend gambling and playing the lotto is in the billions every day worldwide. It is the core of the poor man’s game trying to get ahead with a quick fix. (Just save and invest to get ahead instead) (Average Gambling Costs 200+ monthly.)

Hey to conclude money will never kill you, but abusing how you use it, eventually will. If you eliminate all of these things from your life then you will be healthier and wealthier. (Finally allowing you that surplus you need to prosper) I want all of you to be around for a long time and not depend on anybody else to take care of you financially speaking. Finally you can retire earlier than most, if you are not plagued by these downfalls.

Comment if you approve of the, is money killing you way of thinking.

  1. I agree that the way you use money can definitely kill you. The ways you outline kill you slowly over time. Maybe that is better, maybe it is worse. Unfortunately, most people fall into these issues through addiction.

  2. I don’t think that pointing out people’s addictions on a blog will lead to to a solution. When I smoked, the last thing that would have motivated me to stop was saving a few bucks. Its about the same as telling obese people that they could save money by riding their bike to work.
